Most Linux users are also at least moderately familiar with Microsoft Windows and so are able to move between the two operating systems. An increasing number of us CHOOSE to use Linux, and that's not just because Linux is free of licensing costs and restrictions on how we are allowed to use it.
DO choose one of the better known and well supported distros and then STAY WITH your original choice. Folks who begin by “trying” various distros usually end up confused and disappointed.
Don't forget to make good use of on-line sources of information. The Internet really is your friend in this regard.
That should be enough to get started with Linux. As you become familiar with Linux, you will discover many more facilities, some of which are simply not available via Microsoft Windows. I hope that you have as much use and enjoyment from using Linux as I do.
